The media office of Hon. Ifabiyi Samuel Olatunji has issued an official statement addressing recent public commentary questioning his legislative performance since assuming office in June 3, 2023.
In the statement, the lawmaker’s office emphasized that while constituents have the democratic right to demand accountability, public discourse must be guided by verified facts and a clear understanding of the constitutional responsibilities of elected representatives.
According to the statement, Hon. Ifabiyi s first term has focused on strategic facilitation of development projects, job opportunity, infrastructure advocacy, and grassroots economic empowerment within Odigbo Constituency I.
1. Clarification on Legislative and Executive Roles
The office explained that the Nigerian constitutional framework assigns different responsibilities to the executive and legislative arms of government.
While the executive arm, headed by the Governor and implemented through ministries and agencies, is responsible for executing projects and delivering infrastructure, members of the legislature focus on representation, law-making, oversight, and budget advocacy.
As a member of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon. Ifabiyi s role includes articulating the needs of constituents, participating in legislative debates, ensuring accountability in government spending, and advocating for projects to be included in the state budget.
The statement noted that Ondo State legislators do not control project execution budgets or directly construct infrastructure but instead work through collaboration and advocacy with executive agencies to bring development to their constituencies.
2. Legislative Leadership
Hon. Ifabiyi Olatunji currently serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Security and Community Development as well as superintending House Committee on Information where he contributes to security policy aimed at enhancing Ondo State security standards through regular oversight visit to all security agency headquarters in the state.
The media office added that the 10th Assembly has passed several resolutions addressing security, social, environmental, and economic development across the state.
3. Infrastructure and Community Development
The statement highlighted several infrastructure interventions facilitated by the lawmaker even before the demise of late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu,SAN,CON, including the construction of approximately 1.7 kilometres of interconnected roads in the Onisere axis, covering Asejire, Ominutu, Onirogbo, Mike 10 and Mile 13 villages.
In the area of electricity access, the lawmaker facilitated the installation of Solar street lighting projects and implemented across selected Communites of five political wards, including Akinfolarin village(Odigbo ward), Ore International Market Sabo(Ore Ward), Kajola Oju-Irin(Agbabu Ward) Mile 10 and Olorunsogo Villages(Onisere Ward), and Obajare Village (Ebijaw Ward), with additional installations planned for other communites within the constituency .
The lawmaker constructed 10 Opened Stores at Ajue Market last year. All these are parts of his constituency projects.
Evidently, he has also been assisting members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) within and outside Odigbo Constituency 1 in the areas of payment of tuition fees and the rents.
4. Employment Opportunity
During the last SUBEB and TESCOM recruitments exercises, he facilitated no fewer than 10 slots for primary school teachers and 3 slots secondary school teachers which cut across the six Political Wards of Odigbo Constituency 1.
Jobs also facilitated by the lawmaker includes; Ondo State Primary Healthcare Board, Ondo State Hospital Management Board and Ondo State Internal Revenue Services (ODIRS)
Moreso, in the just concluded Ondo State Security Agency codenamed Amotekun Corps recruitment exercise, one Saheed Adefila from Odigbo ward, Peter Ogunniyi from Onisere and One Akinjiola Kokomo from Ore Ward secured employments.
5. Academic Pursuit
In the education sector, the lawmaker has facilitated admissions for qualified constituents into institutions such as Federal University of Technology Akure, Ondo State College of Health Technology Akure and Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo.
The lawmaker’s office further highlighted several economic empowerment initiatives, including the launch of the Grants Scheme — a ₦10,000 grant to poor and vulnerable and other financial empowerment programmes aimed at supporting constituents,party members and the aged people.
6. Cultural Support
The lawmaker has maintained regular engagement with community groups, youth organisations, and religious bodies while supporting traditional festivals such as the annual Isero Day, the Ajue Odun Oba, Ogun Ore festivalsvand Ifesowapo Youth/Elders Forum (IYF) to preserve Odigbo's and other residents' cultural heritages where he made donations.
Also, it is of no doubt that the impacts of Hon. Ifabiyi Olatunji are felt by people of his state constituency most especially during festive periods such as Christmas/New Year and Salah celebrations where he distributed food items worth millions of naira and Cash gifts to people within and outside Odigbo constituency 1 including traditional rulers, religion leaders, security agencies and APC members.
During 2025 raining season the lawmaker raised huge amount of money to support community development projects especially in rural communities in Onisere and other wards of his constituency .
7. Legislative Activity
The statement also referenced the lawmaker’s sponsorship of bills leading to legislative intervention efforts and resolutions passed including the recent bill, giving staff of the popular Ondo State Print media outfit,the "The Hope Newspaper" to be entitled to pension and gratuity. Likewise, renaming the organisation from Owena Press Limited to Ondo State Printing and Publishing Corporation(OSPPC) respectfully.
8. Commitment to Responsible Representation
The media office stressed that many of the interventions carried out by the lawmaker were not widely publicised because they were considered part of his constitutional responsibilities rather than political campaigns.
It reaffirmed Hon. Ifabiyi Olatunji’s commitment to transparency, constructive dialogue, and continued collaboration with government institutions to deliver meaningful development to Odigbo Constituency I.
The statement concluded by encouraging residents and observers to verify the listed achievements, emphasizing that the lawmaker remains focused on responsible representation and measurable impact for the people of the constituency.
