The lawmaker representing Odigbo constituency I at the State House of Assembly in Ondo State, Ifabiyi Olatunji (JP),has congratulated Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa and his deputy, Dr Olayide Adelami, for the victory recorded at the Election Petition Tribunal.
In a statement by his media adviser, Ifabiyi appealed to candidates of the People Democratic Party (PDP) Alfred Agboola Ajay, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, the Allied People's Movement (APM) and two others to accept the verdict in good faith.
Describing the tribunal judgement as a reflection of judiciary integrity, the lawmaker noted that the outcome of the last governorship election where the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Dr Aiyedatiwa and Adelami winners of the election is a testament of good governance of the present administration in the State.
The statement read, “I Ifabiyi Olatunji heartily congratulates His Excellency, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa and his deputy, Dr Olayide Adelami, on their victory at the Ondo State Election Petition Tribunal which concluded its sitting on June 4, 2025 with the verdict that the election that brought him in as governor was free and fair"
“I am happy to note that with this conclusion, the tribunal has effectively put a seal on the election and confirmed the decision of the majority of Ondo people which overwhelmingly voted the governor in November last year
“I also expresses the view that with this verdict, all the political gladiators across the parties should sheath their sword and cooperate with the governor for the development of the state"
“I appeals to the governor to be magnanimous in victory and to reach out to his opponents for the good of the state"
“I also pleads with the hitherto aggrieved persons to put the outcome of the governorship election behind them and accept the electoral decision of the Ondo people in good faith"
"It is my opinion that there is always another time; as a loser today can become a winner tomorrow.”
The Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Akure on Wednesday, dismissed the petitions filed by the ,PDP, SDP and three other oppositios parties challenging the victory of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in the November 16, 2024 governorship election in Ondo State.
The Tribunal, in its rubling on the APM’s petition, found that the case lacked material facts and was not supported by credible evidence.
Justice Benson Ogbu, who read the lead judgment, stated that the allegations of voting without accreditation, over-voting, corrupt practices, and substantial non-compliance with the Electoral Act were not backed by any verifiable facts.
Recall that the opposition parties had approached the election petition tribunal to challenge the credibility of the poll which produced the APC governorship candidate, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and his deputy Dr Olayide Adelami winners of the last November 16 off cycle election in Ondo State.
