Ondo South By- election: Akinfolarin declares for Senate

....Promises purposeful leadership

As Odigbo APC adopt ex-lawmaker as sole candidate

Former Ileoluji/Okeigbo and Odigbo house of representatives member, Rt Hon. Mayowa Samuel Akinfolarin on Tuesday, declared his intention to contest Ondo south senatorial seat under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming by-election.

He made the declaration at an enlarged APC local government meeting held in Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The immediate past chairman house committee on Federal Roads Safety Corps, (FRSC), said that he took the decision after due consultation with stakeholders of the ruling party of his federal constituency, friends, family and political associates.

“Many people have been asking me if I will run for the Senate, but I pleaded with them to wait until I see the signal and now I have made up my mind.

“Now that the time is now and we now have an opportunity prior to the nomination of Dr Jimoh Ibrahim as ambassador designate , I have decided to contest for the Senatorial seat,” Akinfolarin stated 

The former member of the green chamber said that his decision to contest for a senate seat is to provide purposeful leadership for the people of his district, noting that the senate should not be seen as sabbatical leave or jamboree rather it is a call to serve the people diligently.

Akinfolarin commended President Bola Tinubu and the Governor of Ondo State Dr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for their infrastructural drive, adding that the APC government has done the country good with identifiable evidences.

“My intention to vie for the senatorial seat is to ensure that the voice of Ondo South is heard and my concept of empowerment will be modified not just giving tricycles, generators or motorcycles but to champion the overall development in my federal constituency and beyond.

“We should be thinking of how we can bring infrastructure development to our people,” he said.

Reacting, crosse sessions APC Aborigines, loyalists, party stalwarts and community leaders, however, at a well attended meeting, adopted Mayowa Akinfolarin as sole candidate to fill the vacant seat, just as they pledged to throw heavy weight behind the former Ileoluji/Okeigbo and Odigbo federal legislator's senatorial ambition, describing the development as an eye-opener.

Present at the face of declaration were; commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs Alhaji Amidu Takuro, member of Ondo State House of Assembly Hon. Ifabiyi Olatunji, special adviser to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on union matters and special duty, comrade Bola Taiwo, Odigbo council boss, Otunba Taiwo Adegoroye.

Others includes; a full-term TESCOM board member,Hon. Ajani Oladipupa, special assistants, LCDA chairmen, councilors, and other party members across 11 wards of Odigbo Local Government Area.

Akinfolarin's declaration to contest senate seat came on the heel following the appointment of the serving senator representing Ondo South Senatorial District, Dr Jimoh Ibrahim, CFR as ambassador designate, by President Bola Tinubu
