Speaking at the opening game of the 2022 edition of NAPSGAST Sport Festival,held at Ajue Grammar School Sports Complex, chairman of the association,Comrade Odebode Olorunfemi explained that the essence of the event is mainly to showcase divine gifts embedded in those talented pupils which may earn them their professionalism in future.
Comrade Odebode further noted that not all those that acquired formal education can earn their living through education,saying those who have what it takes to survive aside education are in degrees.
He stressed that government need to prioritize sport at the grassroots by including it in its budgetary allocation of the year, adding that by so doing,it would assist the nation to abate joblessness and would also bring unwavering socioeconomic transformation of the country.
Earlier, Chairman Planning Committee of the occasion, Mr Ilori David Adeniran who commended Comrade Odebode Olorunfemi and other executive members of NAPSGAST in Odigbo Local Government Area for their indelible contributions towards the attainment of the programme despite all odds, calling on Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, CON and Odigbo Local Government Council boss, Mrs Margret Akinsuroju to support the drive of the association in fishing out talents to move the world of sports forward in the local government ditto to the State.
While pointing out the giant strides of young Nigerian athlete,Tobi Amusan who recently won several gold medal for the country in the last World Athletic game,the duo appealed to the Minister of Youths Sports in the country, Mr Sunday Dare to encourage sports activities at the local level, noting that this is the only way to build a stronger and formidable foundation to recover the former nation's sports status,"Giant of Africa".
Across sessions of sport lovers and spectators including the Media Director of the association in Odigbo council area, Prince Vincent Obinta at the opening game, returned all glory to God Almighty, who made the occasion awesome, reiterating the slogan for the association as" Catch them Young to Keep them On".
In the opening game of the competition, Araromi-Obu Zone tops the table in 800 Metre and 1500 Metre Boys and Girls.
