In less than a month to presidential election in Nigeria,no fewer than five hundred members of People Democratic Party (PDP) in Odigbo Local Government, on Wednesday defected to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
This was as the defectors, who were led by Hon Ariyo, drummed support for all APC candidates in Odigbo Local Government in the 2023 Elections.
The defection of the PDP members into APC was consequent upon what they described as the unending deceit and deception within the party which they said, has not only continued to cause more harm to their personal development as politicians than good but also dangerous for the entrenchment of internal democracy within a political party.
Receiving the defectors into All Progressives Congress (APC) by APC party chairman in Odigbo Local Government Alhaji Olawale Fatai, said the work that lies ahead is beyond anybody’s personal interest, stressing that 2023 is all about Renew Hope.
In his address, Alhaji Olawale Fatai maintained that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Presidency for 2023, Senator Ondo South Senatorial candidate Bar. Jimoh Ibrahim (CFR), Ile-Oluji/OkeIgbo and Odigbo Federal Constituency Candidate Hon Adefiranye Festus, Odigbo Constituency Constituency I House of Assembly Candidate Hon Ifabiyi Olatunji Samuel, Odigbo Constituency II House of Assembly candidate Engr. Babatunde Fasonu, they were all like a moving train whose time has come.
Earlier, leader of the PDP defectors, Hon Ariyo from Ore ward Odigbo Local Government, said: “We are from PDP and we decided to join APC because PDP has failed us because they care only about themselves and not Nigerians.”
That is why we decided to come back and join them in APC. Although we started out as APC members since many years ago we left to join the PDP but we have decided to come back home through Hon Adefiranye Festus and Hon Ifabiyi Olatunji Samuel because PDP has neither benefited us as politicians in Odigbo local Government.
After the candidates talked to us to return home, we felt this is a woman of great value and pedigree in terms of leadership and integrity. Actually we have been together for many years so they’re a leader we can trust to follow and lead in ensuring that All APC candidates emerges in come 2023 election by the special grace of God”.
