Fear grieved both commuters and travellers, as there was a gridlock along the ever busy Lagos-Benin road in Ore,the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State on Tuesday, when residents embarked on a peaceful protest over what they described as why Nigeria's citizens are being subjected to an untold hardship by the government.
It is never a gainsaying that citizens of the nation have continue to experience hardship as claimed by protesters due to the new Naira Notes Redesign Policy by Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, clustered with fuel scarcity which has led members of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigerian, IPMAN, in the country to sell the Premium Motor Spirit also known as petrol at different range between #400 to#700 pump price.
While decrying the detrimental stage of the nation during the peaceful outcry by residents due to fuel and naira scarcity ravaging the country, Ore Community Youth Leader, Prince Adeyemi Adebayo explained that the protest became imprative in order to checkmate lackadaisical attitudes of the nation's leaders towards the wellbeing of the suffering masses.
Prince Adebayo alleged that the new naira policy by the federal government had since three weeks ago resulted to many aged long queues in all new generation banks nationwide, forcing many poor Nigerians to make withdrawal of #10,000 at #2,000 per charges virtually in all Point of Sale, POS sections across the country.
He equally alleged the federal government for reminded incapacitated to exercise its sovereign power to implement the approved petrol pump price, adding that until federal government consider the plights of Nigerians, citizens would not relent to remind the government on the need to do the needful where and when necessary.
"This peaceful protest is not aimed to destroy properties nor to claim life but to demonstrate our annoyance to the government of the day that we common Nigerians are suffering.
We can no longer withdraw without made for pay heavy charges at all POS,and many sleep overnight in banks due to naira scarcity.
Going round all filling stations since three weeks till date you will discover that members of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigerian,IPMAN, are selling the product between #400-#700.
We want Government to exercise its sovereign grace to rectify these issues of general concerned". He noted
Loveleadsnews also gathered that Ore,irele and Okitipupa axis and the old Lagos-Benin road which linked to Sabo Market were also barricaded, however, commercial activities of the popular Ore Sabo Market were paralyzed due to the peaceful exercise as many traders recounted their ordeals during the last nationwide EndSars protest in Nigeria.
It was also learnt that many travellers and commuters plying Lagos-Benin highway were left stranded.
Meanwhile,as at the time of filing this report,no arson nor life damages have been caused by the protesters as men of the Nigeria Police are fully on ground to forestall any breaking down of laws and orders.
It would be recalled that the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State,CP Oyeyemi Oyediran, psc, fsi, on Monday met with stakeholders in the state to address the issues of scarcity/inability to access cash at financial institutions. Hike in fuel price at various filling stations.
Across session of residents who spoke with loveleadsnews including one Osuntuyi Ayodeji, therefore urged President Mohammadu Buhari and the Federal Government to urgently profer solutions to the current states of things negating to socioeconomic life of the Nigerians.
