The Igba-Otun Youths Organisation (IYO) volunteers Ketu-Ereyun in Ikosi- Ejinrin Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, has urged the State Government to take more proactive steps aimed at eradicating drug abuse amongst youths and vulnerable groups in the state.
Speaking with journalists at the State capital Ikeja on Wednesday, the group board of trustees’ Chairman, comrade Rasheed Adesanya disclosed that IYO is ready to set the record straight in the fight against drugs abuse among the future leaders in the state.
Commending the inspector general of police, Kayode Egbetokun Ph.D.,NPM and Lagos State Commissioner of Police CP Jimoh Moshood, Adesanya also noted that the group would also work closely with all stakeholders in the drug value chain including the Nigeria Police and the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA) to ensure that they play key roles towards stamping out drug abuse to zero tolerance In the state.
According to him, drug abuse is responsible for the increasing rate of suicide, rape,cultism and other social vices, adding that: “If you check our various extended family, neighbours across nation, you will see one or two persons abusing drugs and that is why our slogan which said ‘we’re not buying the idea' in the crusade.
“This organisation are group of people who decided to come together seeing how drug have ravage the Lagos State particularly ranging from persecution drug abuse, cocaine, synthetic drug, marijuana”
“We should think of the reason why many people kill themselves up to secondary schools and why suicide is obtained. All these happen due to drug abuse which makes it very prevalent.
“Our organisation came to stamp all the abuses of drug away out in our dear State.”
He added: “Our vision is to stamp out drug abuse to zero, and make it a reality in this community.”
In a telephone chat with Prince Babajide Adekoya Adefowora,the Oba-elect of Ketu-Ereyun Kingdom, the monarch enjoined Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), military, Nigerian police, parliamentary organisations to join a walk against the abuse of drugs in Lagos state.
Prince Babajide Adefowora, however, urged all the Nigeria Force headquarters, commands and divisions to allign with the anti-narcotic agency to go after drug dealers and the abusers in order to flush out criminals across all the states of the federation including the Lagos state.
