The attention of the Ondo State chapter of the Grassroots Movement for Tinubu (GMT) has been drawn to a mischievous and poorly scripted social media post as authored by one Emorioleye Owolemi, a self-acclaimed Director General of a faceless group called Asiwaju Media Team. In the said post, Owolemi made a desperate and futile attempt to create the impression of internal division within GMT in Ondo State.
In his latest act of mischief, Owolemi conjured up a non-existent individual whom he named Engr. Benson Atere, fabricated a statement and attributed it to this imaginary character as the “leadership” of GMT. The ghost-written statement contained several baseless and malicious allegations against the Director General of the most leading pro-Tinubu group in Ondo State, Hon. Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye, including claims of a fictitious probe panel and an impending dissolution and reconstitution of GMT leadership.
Ordinarily, the Ondo State chapter of GMT would have dismissed the post as one more unintelligent joke from a desperate attention-seeker. However, because some unsuspecting members of the public may mistake his farce for fact, we consider it necessary to clarify the situation. Only a demented or malicious mind would stage such a ridiculous drama to mislead the public.
We state categorically that the leadership of Hon. Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye has brought tremendous progress to GMT in Ondo State. Under his direction, the organisation has recorded several milestones listed as follows:
1. Successful inauguration of ward and local government executives across all 18 LGAs with the latest inauguration concluded in Okitipupa and Irele on Monday.
2. The Jingi Asiwaju Medical Outreach which has provided free healthcare services to thousands of residents across all senatorial districts and federal constituencies.
3. Discovery and empowerment of sporting talents through the ongoing Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Sports Festival which has attracted massive participation statewide.
4. Consistent intercessory programmes by the GMT Women’s Forum which has organised special prayer sessions for Nigeria and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Another session is scheduled for this Thursday in Oka-Akoko.
These achievements are testaments to the transparent leadership, organisational capacity and unwavering commitment of Hon. Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye.
We therefore urge the good people of Ondo State, GMT leaders and members, and all supporters within and beyond the state to disregard the antics and buffoonery of Emorioleye Owolemi. GMT hereby reaffirms its total confidence in Hon. Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye and his purposeful leadership. We assure the public that GMT remains focused on its objectives and will not be distracted by political comedians.
It is also important to note that GMT is not a product of internal Ondo State politics. The organisation did not originate from the state. It merely established its presence here. Therefore, the likes of Owolemi and his shadowy sponsors lack the capacity to destabilise GMT or pluck a strand of hair from its structure.
We are aware that the same Owolemi, who parades himself as DG of a supposed Asiwaju Media Team, a group that claims to be supporting President Tinubu’s re-election, is the very individual working tirelessly to pull down genuine support groups and committed individuals mobilising for President Tinubu.
For instance, he wrote to the Ondo State Commissioner of Police and the Director of DSS falsely alleging that the national leadership of the APC had banned GMT and AMG in Ondo State.
He published several defamatory posts accusing Hon. Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye of diverting funds at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, and even falsely claiming that the EFCC charged him to court in Akure. This blatant lie collapsed immediately, as Hon. Yusuf-Ogunleye has never worked at FMC, Owo. The mischief-maker simply confused him with Yusuf Saka Olarenwaju, one of the actual defendants in a 2019 case.
More recently, Owolemi has been deployed to launch serial attacks on the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, one of the shining stars of President Tinubu’s cabinet. Despite the minister’s sterling performance, Owolemi and his handlers have attempted to malign his reputation while pretending to be working for the President’s re-election. Their actions expose them as enemies, not supporters, of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
We are not at this time concerned with the identities of Owolemi’s sponsors. The public can read between the lines. In due course, the world will know who is beating the drum from beneath the river for this drifting flotsam. And when that moment comes, the real enemies of President Tinubu in Ondo State and the reason for their deep-seated hostility will be exposed.
For now, Emorioleye Owolemi can continue to dance with his imaginary GMT. He may believe he has stolen the king’s trumpet. We await the spectacle of where he intends to blow it.
