Breaking: Former Onisere Ward 11 Councillor, Hon. Peter Ajide ('Adefarati'), Dies After Brief Illness

Hon. Peter Ajide, popularly known as "Adefarati," a former councillor of Onisere Ward 11 of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, has died after a brief illness.

Ajide, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), reportedly passed away in the early hours of Sunday, July 5, 2026, at a health facility in Ore, where he had been receiving treatment.

The late politician served as councillor during the administration of the immediate past Chairman of Odigbo Local Government, Mrs. Margaret Akinsuroju.

Confirming the development, the member representing Odigbo Constituency I in the Ondo State House of Assembly, Akoni Ifabiyi Olatunji, described Ajide's death as a rude shock and a significant loss to the bereaved family, friends and members of the ruling party in Odigbo local government area of the state.

According to the lawmaker, Ajide had called him just hours before his death to complain of severe body pains. He said he immediately advised him to go to the hospital for medical attention.

Expressing his grief, Ifabiyi said:
"He was one of the great leaders of our political tendency. He was courageous, honest, hardworking, and someone you could always trust. He was a man of principle who believed strongly in the ideals of party hierarchy, equity, and justice.

"He will be greatly missed in our political family, especially within the APC in Onisere Ward. He contributed immensely during his tenure as councillor.

"As one of my closest political allies, he sacrificed his time, resources, and commitment for the party without seeking personal gain. His dedication played a major role in our electoral successes in Onisere Ward. He died this morning in the hospital."

Family sources said the remains of the late Hon. Peter Ajide have been deposited in a morgue, while funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
